Morning tests...

The story behind: a client is considering moving all the new mini PCs in their office to Linux (no BSD is compatible at the moment), since they mainly use web apps and LibreOffice. This client once told me they loved Transport Tycoon, back in the days, so I’m preparing an openSUSE Leap image. I’m sure they’ll be fascinated by this screenshot and the demo installation.

#Linux #openSUSE #PlayOnLinux #OSS #suse

A screenshot of an OpenSuse Leap desktop environment running inside an Oracle VirtualBox virtual machine. The desktop has a yellow and orange wallpaper.

Two application windows are open:

1. On the left, the game "Simutrans" shows a dialog box titled "Select one or more graphics to install". A list of graphics packs, such as "pak64" and "pak128.Britain", is displayed. The "pak32" option is highlighted, and a progress bar below it indicates it is "Downloading...".

2. On the right, the game "OpenTTD" is running. It displays an isometric view of a city in the year 1950.

The taskbar at the bottom of the screen shows icons for several applications, including Simutrans and OpenTTD. The system clock on the far right reads "10:04 15/10/25".

@stefano I'm not sure that will exactly improve their productivity, but at least they'll be happy? 😁

@stefano does OpenSUSE provides an already isolated Web browser env (jail, chroot, apparmor etc) or an easy-to-activate option?

@stefano not everything is Ubuntu/Debian and Suse is a good distro for this purpose.

@stefano Oh, the good old days. I remember playing OpenTTD back in 2005, only 20 years ago =)

@stefano nice. Question: what was your motivation to go for openSuse instead of other stable distros, like Debian?

@madduci There will be many PCs and the tools that suse is providing are fine for an end user. The rollback, etc are useful.
I've always had good experiences with suse desktops, so I feel quite confident in suggesting them
