For anyone who's switched from #MagixVegas to #kdenlive what are some things you've found difficult, and some things you've found helpful? What advice might you have for someone considering or attempting such a switch?

@LeoKirke I used Sony Vegas a very long time ago. It is where I learned to edit.

But I've been using kdenlive for so long now that I don't think I'll be a useful transitional resource.

I can talk about kdenlive if that'll be helpful.

@ajroach42 I’m happy to hear any general user experience/ thoughts / etc.! but I will say I am approaching this as someone who takes a long time to absorb technical information so there is a risk that if you’re highly proficient I might not absorb a lot unless you kind of explain things like I’m five.

@LeoKirke I like kdenlive. I wouldn't say I'm highly proficient. I use it a lot, but I don't know that that's the same thing.

It mostly does what you expect.

@ajroach42 I appreciate the input!

I’d like to switch to open source options. I’ve got this documentary project coming up and I’m wondering if the learning curve will slow me down way too much and if I should stick to Vegas for the time being, or if it’s close enough that it probably won’t be a super rough transition.

@LeoKirke try a small project, and see how it makes you feel?

@ajroach42 I’ll probably attempt that, I just had a bit of a logistical issue that means I’ll have less time before the editing phase on the doc starts, but I may see what a super simple project feels like
