Although the FCC was not allowed to practice censorship, it wasn't long before advertisers discovered they were not subject to the same restric-tions. Cream of Wheat, which sponsored best-selling author Alexander Woollcott on CBS, received some complaints from listeners that Woollcott had made derogatory remarks about Adolph Hitler. When the author refused the advertiser's request to refrain from such remarks, his series was canceled.
