Has anyone else noticed a kind of chilling effect on criticism of AI in tech workplaces and other professional settings? I’m seeing that a lot of the criticism of AI in those sorts of spaces is becoming more guarded and less upfront and open.

@daisy I filled out an anonymous feedback form asking if we'd taken gen AI power usage into account for our net-zero carbon target, and that I didn't think you can ethically use any current AI. CEO's response in front of the whole company was to go 'no, but we don't count our servers either' and to compare the questioner to luddites.
So overnight while lying in bed fuming I calculated our (very rough!) server power usage and complained to my manager at my last 1-to-1. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@daisy at our delightful employer? Yep. It makes me very angry. I have given up on pointing out that energy use of tokens really isn't the problem though because I suffer badly enough from stress without adding to it!
@daisy My GM wants to go all-in on it and is Not Happy™ that I could possibly voice objections, or be able to see a future where LLMs haven't taken over.
@daisy yup - i've received a lot of signals to just not
@daisy very much. We are calling their baby ugly.
