@ccferrie @IBIKEDublin the (well tested) idea is that most drivers push through on red lights because they make poor decisions in the short time frame. Extending the yellow light gives more time to react properly to the changing light and the majority of drivers react appropriately. It has nothing to do with the amount of time for pedestrians to cross. That needs to be at least as long as before. Some drivers will still end up running the light but accidents/injuries to all parties drop.
