Food – like housing, water and medical care – should not be run for the profit of rich people.

I mean, if you want to over charge for absolute luxuries, that's one thing. But it shouldn't be normal for companies, run by people who only care for profit, to decrease the quality and nutrition in our food so they can chase said-profits, without letting people know.

Very few people have time to read labels to this degree, and even fewer have the competency to understand what it means for their health, and the health of those they feed.

As ingredients in supermarket goods decrease, experts warn of 'skimpflation'

The main ingredient in dozens of supermarket products has been reduced, an ABC investigation has found, leading retail and marketing experts to call for more transparency around recipe changes.

An example in the article is Chris' hommus. There's been a 16.9% drop in the amount of chickpeas. The article doesn't say what was increased, but my money is on a lot more water, a little more emulsifier, and maybe a little more vegetable oil.

If you just snack on hommus occasionally as part of a nutritious diet, and you get enough calories, all good. You only miss a tiny but of fibre and protein.

But if you're on a tight budget and raising a picky-eating four year old who is getting a lot of their fibre and protein and calories and micro nutrients from hommus (and I know such a child), that kid just lost a more significant amount of nutrition, without any notice to their care giver.

@keira_reckons We need to overthrow capitalism stat.

I think talking about what's happening before our eyes and working to make it common knowledge is important. There isn't a floor to quality, if it's allowed to happen it will keep happening. It needs to not be okay to do this.

People fight to get to a stable point in life where they are dependent on some streams of specific products, and these can just change, and they *will* change in such a way that will directly harm them and their children.
