@continuation I think a lot of people simply do not have the strength to do it alone, and while that strength is necessary to a movement, it is not necessary in every single individual for the movement to prevail. We are a social species. We rely on community to survive, which means not leaving the weak behind (though, also, not entrusting them to lead: leadership is just one type of contribution.)
The biggest predictor of a child surviving a horrific abuse environment - which is essentially fascism writ small - to become a functional adult is having just one, single, solitary adult in their lives who believes in them and supports them, even if that support is limited - a teacher, a librarian, a friend’s parent. Support from one other person IS how most people become able to stand in the first place, alone or otherwise. Heroes who can generate strength from nothing are very rare. All our strength is rooted in community.
But: we are never really alone. We have friends everywhere.
