As there is a pattern of hate that pops up every few months spreading misinformation and lies about the project, let’s take a moment to dispel some myths.

- No individual adds instances to the database. Current Sources monitor the fediblock hashtag and decide on their own whether to add an instance to their own blocklists, which the project then reads and compiles. Current Sources can edit information for an instance entry, but cannot manual add them.

- Current Sources are chosen based on their vigilance in monitoring harmful content and their commitment to projecting their members and come from a wide variety of backgrounds.

- The project does not weigh instance recommendations based on the size of a Current Source. A vote to block an instance from a Source with thousands of users counts the same as a vote for a block for an instance of handful of friends. Favoritism does not exist in the process.

- The most blocked instances (80 to 90% Heat Rating) exhibit some combination of racism, queerphobia, CSAM content and poor moderation. The identity and ethnic background of the admins that engage in these combinations is irrelevant. The project does not target any instance based on how their admins identify.

- There is an Appeals Process for instances that feel they are being listed unfairly. The details can be seen here: https://tweaking.thebad.space/appeals

- The creator of the project, @are0h, is not a Current Source.
