@CremRoad The first album I released was on cassette in 1989. The outside cover was a collage put together with judicious use of double-sided tape and a very flexible amount of bleed, then laid on an outside concrete path on a sunny day and photographed with an analogue camera. We had 100 prints made of the most accurately positioned photograph, then photocopied the liner notes onto the back of each one in the right position, and guillotined and folded them to the correct size.

@CremRoad It was very much a trial and error process, and all with equipment begged and borrowed from friends; we'd no money to do anything else.
The cassette duplication and cassette labels were more straightforward: I was managing a professional recording studio that year, and it had a cassette duplicator and label machine.
The finished product looked fantastic, and I'm proud of what we achieved with some outside-the-box thinking and favours from a few friends.

@CremRoad Being reminded of the album I went to see if there's any extant audio. Here's the very end of one of my favourite tracks.
The album was made using a Roland D20, a Tascam 244 Portastudio, an Audio Technica dynamic mic and a Yamaha acoustic guitar. It was mixed at the studio I was managing at the time, which was very well-equipped.
