Oh and fuck everyone who has kept gaslighting us all summer assuring us that the legibility and contrast issues would get fixed before the public release.

THIS is what's landing on people's phones and laptops tomorrow.

@span nileane @span cstross I will apologise for that, I personally haven't had any issues with making out the UI, but I could easily see others would have issues with it. With it being so obviously bad, I figured it would get enough push back from folks that it would get fixed. Apparently Apple doesn't listen hard enough to accessibility advocates.

@span nileane Fully agreed. What I find wild though is that this *is* better than when things started in beta 1. This is an improvement, and yet it’s still fundamentally broken in terms of legibility, usability, contrast, etc (and also vestibular accessibility, given how many things ‘escape’ Reduce Motion).

@span craiggrannell @span nileane You know how some people turn their phone screens greyscale to feel less enticed to use them? I guess for me it’s going to be the vague sense of continuous nausea from now on…

@span marinaepelman @span nileane Reduce Motion and Reduce Transparency do help, FWIW. But neither is yet fully implemented. So Apple’s also going to end up – yet again – triggering a bunch of people with vestibular disorders. Time will tell if that will be as bad as with iOS 7 (which was very, very bad).

What’s worse is Apple teaching devs to get more excited about aesthetics than usability and accessibility. There are going to be many apps taking a step back in terms of UX.

@span craiggrannell @span marinaepelman @span nileane That last paragraph needs a “10 million” emoji. 💯💯💯💯💯

It’s not really a new development, though, right?

You could tell something was off at Apple by observing how the content, structure, and focus of the Human Interface Guidelines changed over time. And that has now arrived at a point of #UX and #IxD arbitrariness in #LiquidGlass.

I wonder what that feels like to the original Mac team who put so much heart, thought, and skill into _their_ work. ☹️

@span craiggrannell @span nileane I’ve had both of them enabled for as long as they’ve been available. That’s my baseline.
