I know likes, faves, and reposts don’t matter, but I cant help but think either I’m terrible at social media or everything I make is completely forgettable. Probably a bit of both. And not talking specifically about Mastodon. It’s everywhere. But thankfully I love what I do and that’s what truly matters. Someday I’ll be able to share something cool.

@mark FWIW, I made a choice to follow you because you do seem interesting. I follow many people, though, so I don't see all posts, maybe most posts. It's always ok to boost your own posts so that they get seen by folk checking in at different times of the day.

@mark as a big fan of Tweetbot and Ivory, I beg to differ. A lot of us Tweetbot users left that platform specifically because your app stopped working, and we were DROOLING for the Mastodon client.

@Gte Yea it's just a bit of a rant. I see so many things on Instagram that are fairly mediocre with thousands of interactions and I'll post what I thought as pretty good art and get 3 likes. I know the algorithm, etc., but just feels frustrating at times. I don't want to try and game the system.
@mark @Gte It's a lot of work. I've seen some folk on IG with large followings who are frustrated that they are being seen by only a fraction of the followers who used to like/comment.
I've been seeing a lot of sponsored content, so it seems that some are paying to be seen.
And, don't forget to throw your work into your stories thing. They are faster to go through, at least I find.
@mark There’s a part in all of us that wants to be validated by our peers. Social media isn’t that. The breadth of openness invites everyone to come and gawk and leave their own impressions.
Do your stuff. You’ll do great. Always have.
@freediverx @Gte While I agree, that's where most people are. None of my family and real life friends are on Mastodon (besides the few that are super nerdy like us). They are ALL on Instagram. But again, engagement here regarding my work isn't amazing either so it's definitely a me problem. I'm fine with that. Just means I have to keep pushing forward. 🙂

@mark I know you said it’s not specifically mastodon, but if you need social media clout for a new venture than I’m afraid you need instagram or threads.
@Craktok I've had instagram since it first came out. The algorithm makes me invisible there.

@mark if you’re definitely going for the new venture thing, I think you’d have seed free samples to some semi-prominent accounts on there.
@mark I never actually check how many likes (stars) your posts receive, but you create such awesome things, it almost feels there is no point in liking them at all — you must know how great they (and subsequently you) are. But seems I was wrong all along.

However I’ll say I’ve been following your stuff for well over a decade (close to 2 decades), and was following when I started out in design. Like back when we used deviantart old lol, and I’ve loved basically everything you share. And you were one of the few that praised my old work back then too
I’m sure there’s lots of us silent admirers. Your work is phenomenal
@mark I love your art and really think it's worth following you. One thing that might help: I often don't get the context of your designs, probably because I have only followed you for a little while. I'm sure more context for your work would help readers understand th why and what better.
@mark you may not get direct feedback about your art as much as you should, but as someone using Ivory daily I interact with your design constantly, finding myself filled with joy each time.
Your design comes across as intuitive, and delightful, and while I’m sure you have other artistic pursuits that also deserve recognition, I do feel important to note how many are already enjoying what you do, and how memorable it is.
