My #CrossBorderRail conclusions tour starts in a fortnight. And with a rainy European autumn ahead this time I can’t delay it more… it’s time to rebuild the Birdy mudguards and luggage rack. Horrible job, lots of cutting alloy with the Dremel.

R+M won’t supply parts for a bike this old so I have to make my own from parts of a kid’s bike.

Having worked on this for about 8 hours today, it's still not done. Learning the lessons of previous repairs helps (I am adding double bolts to hold the mudguards for example)

But these mudgards this time are a fraction larger diameter than before, so they stick in some places, and don't really bend... 😡

When this is done I will update the blog post about how to repair this sort of bike! https://jonworth.eu/turning-a-2001-riese-und-muller-birdy-into-a-modern-folding-bicycle/
