Independent, free media stands at the core of democracy.

Today, the European Media Freedom Act starts applying, designed to strengthen media freedom, independence, and pluralism within the EU.

It ensures
✅ Stronger protection for journalists
✅ Adequate funding and editorial freedom for public service media
✅ Limits to unwarranted removal of media content by very large online platforms

It also establishes the European Board for Media Services.

The image appears to feature a repeated text statement: "Let the truth be told, let the press be free." with the word "truth" and "free" emphasised in a different style bold and italic. At the bottom right, there is a symbol that resembles the European Union flag, suggesting the message is related to press freedom and transparency within or in relation to the EU.

@EUCommission

« Protect journalistic sources, including against the use of spyware » -> Protect journalistic sources, including against the use of spyware and chat control.

Please correct.

#ChatControl

@EUCommission Yes, the media should absolutely be free to decide whom they want to share their messages with.

In other words, fuck off with that chat control nonsense.

@EUCommission In order to have a free press, journalists need to be able to protect their sources and whistleblowers need to be able to expose corruption without fear of reprisal. #ChatControl is an affront to the idea of a free press.

@EUCommission Are you guys for real? #hungary and #poland disagree, and so is #spain .

Yeah, informed people don't truly believe the bullshit you're selling.

@EUCommission also EC:
Let's destroy the confidentiality of correspondence by introducing #chatcontrol.
Let's destroy anonymity by introducing mandatory #ageverification.

In other words, let's destroy the things that are essential for journalism to function properly.

@EUCommission that sounds good! (Though the associated budgets seem way too small? Maybe I missed something?)

> Ensure Member States provide an assessment of the impact of key media market concentrations on media pluralism and editorial independence

Well, I know quite a few countries (mine included) where *that* is gonna be fun! 🍿

@EUCommission How can you on one hand argue for free and independent media. And on the other hand try to force non-secure communication with ChatControl2?
Secure communication, without BigBrothers ear is a necessity for this free and independent media.

@EUCommission not just free but robust too. magazines like BILD should not be allowed to exist and spread their lies. it waters down credibility of real journalism and disturbs our common ground of morals and ethics.
