It seems evident that the two bombs would be dropped to confirm their relative effectiveness before Japan could realistically respond. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/commentary/2025/08/06/japan/were-hiroshima-and-nagasaki-bombings-necessary/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #commentary #japan #worldwarii#atomicbombing #hiroshima #nagasaki

@thejapantimes The bombs were a civilizational tragedy, including civilian Japanese victims and one non-military target (city), but the circumstances at the time were that Imperial Japanese troops were both willing to die to the last man while killing Allies and anyone still under their occupation. That's on the Japanese nation alone.

Rewriting history will do nothing to help Japan.

Maybe try addressing the consequences: russians grabbed Japanese territory *without cause*; and lot of Chinese people still hate Japan; not simply because of the murderous occupation but also because the Japanese occupations helped the scheming communists to overthrow the war-weakened Republic...

Standing solidly for *democratic* development in everything you do might go some way towards fixing past mistakes/crimes?

(i.e. don't fund or empower despots)
