Businessman says we shouldn't build good infrastructure because the future will be dystopian congestion #cars #transport #ireland

Dermot Desmond says don't bother with a metro to the airport because self driving cars. Even though we already have cars and need a metro. For some reason he thinks having no driver will charge things

@ronanmcd

I know it is useless to bring arguments in this kind of lobbying, but as it is the job of my company (to design metros) I wanted to share.

In a city like Dublin,

Count how many people needs transportation at peak hours.

Compare the ridiculous density of peoples in individual cars, with a metro.

Even with cars performing a perfect ballet (and everybody here knows it will never happen but let's dream),

Without public transport,

There WILL be congestion.

That's basic math.

@nartagnan @ronanmcd That's exactly it. There's no way to make "we should have autonomous cars instead of trains" work unless you pretend that size constraints don't exist or convince yourself that any improvements you make to driving won't lead to more driving (and even less space).
