How would I carry 2.5 meter long rods on my bicycle? My trailer is only 70 cm long, they would hang too far behind I think...

@nicd I've moved 2.4m wooden dowels and bits by putting them into my panier bags and securing sort of in a tall triangle vertically. Just need to watch the trees and any low hanging signs. Not sure if rods are too heavy maybe?

If your bike looks anything like this bike symbol and the rods aren't too big/ too many you should be able to carry them like this 👇

orange : bike
blue : rods
pink : straps (with a knot and bow)

a bicycle symbol with a blue horizontal line along the top bar but longer than the bike and scrawly pink lines that "tie" the blue line to the symbol

@nicd how far do you need to travel? The last time I needed to haul something that lang I walked with it. I felt there was less chance of damaging it

@webhat In this weather, I'd like to avoid it. The sun is a deadly laser.

Strap them to the top bar frame of your bicycle, hanging off the front and back, above the front wheel, so it can still turn?

I've done that sort of thing with quite long poles in the past.

May depend on the shape of your bicycle or interfere with pedaling a bit...

Experiment with triangular supports (maybe a folding ladder?) on your trailer so shorten the overall span?

Good luck!

@vagrantc @oivoi @47363 I'm worried how attaching them to the top tube would affect my pedaling, but maybe I can test it with some stuff I have laying around at home first. Thankfully there's only 3 things to carry (1 plastic pipe and 2 metal u-shaped pieces). In fact those metal pieces might even stack neatly.

I don't know how far etc. you have to go.
I have done this (and got home without problems) - but our DIY store is only ~3½ km away and the topography is very bike-friendly (flat).

@47363 @vagrantc @oivoi 7 km and quite hilly. But I think I should be able to do it. Just need to make sure I know how to dismount if needed without crashing. :D
