Pleased to announce that my book, Move Slowly and Build Bridges: Mastodon, the Fediverse, and the Struggle for Democratic Social Media, is now available online, and will be out in print in a couple weeks!

That site has more stuff, too -- links to related articles, some notes about how I researched it, and a contact form in case you want to talk about the fediverse with me! (I'd be happy to chat with journalists about it!)

Congratulations 🎉
Had a glance at the description and the table of contents and it looks fascinating! I really look forward to reading it and to being able to consider from an academic perspective things I’m so familiar with from daily use (‘the field’).

Will the book be available in a DRM-free format, preferably EPUB? I used Calibre’s search options, and it found eBooks.com, according to which it will be available as ‘encrypted’ (i.e. with DRM) PDF and EPUB files. Are there any other options? I want to buy the book in a digital format, but DRM goes against my principles.

I also found your blog, which I’m going to binge… blobfoxread

Thanks for sharing your research and thoughts! 🌼

@mpjgregoire Thank you!

I don't know if I changed my mind so much as learned a lot from the interviews. My earlier books were more about surveillance and political economy, and those aspects didn't seem to be as strong among the folks I talked to. Instead, the concerns were more with safety and moderation tools. So my focus shifted over time.
