"Men who sell machines that mimic people want us to become people who mimic machines. They want techno feudal subjects who will believe and do what they’re told. We, as people, are being strategically simplified. This is a fascist process."

How many people out there have been set a project to figure out how AI could be of benefit to their organisation?

Love this quote:

“”Abstract AI Solutionism”—the belief that our best hope lies in scaling up AI to solve everything. But we already know how to stop killing the Earth. We already know how to reduce preventable deaths and crimes of desperation. The problem is that the solutions don’t serve billionaires—70% of whom made their fortunes in tech.”

@emilymbender I often wonder what James C. Scott would have made of this.

@emilymbender those so does capitalism effectively pollute intention, and thus invention?

if:
* not all 'men' are bad
* not all 'machines' are bad
* not all 'economies' are bad

where would you argue lies the failing element?

designed obsolescence? trickle-down economics?

*takes seat in back of class*

@emilymbender Thanks so much for sharing this. It's just the piece I needed to share with a dear friend who doesn't get it.
