@laurenshof In my view it would've been easier to add ActivityPub support directly into the Tumblr code base than porting Tumblr to WordPress. I am not surprised this hasn't gone anywhere.

@Gargron yeah agreed

Also, adding AP support directly to Tumblr is likely been a process that would have taken quite a while with many intermediate steps, but I think the lesson from Threads is that rolling out AP support highly incrementally over a multi-year timeperiod is an absolutely amazing way to get free marketing and positive press from the tech journalism community

@Gargron @laurenshof I mean.. when you have a hammer everything looks like nails.

(Wordpress being the hammer)

@laurenshof Just building #wafrn rather than waiting for Tumblr to ever federate is time spent about an infinity times better. cc: @gabboman

@laurenshof I recall a variety of speculation, ranging from 'we will have arrived' to handwringing. At that time I didn't understand how brainwormed Matt was & thought it might happen & would generally be a good thing, but not really major.

(I had a lot of technical questions about the 'migrate wordpress to tumblr' part, starting with 'why?' & proceeding through a dozeon or so variations on 'no, really, why?')

@laurenshof I reported on a few blog posts that the Tumblr team released, but they were few and far between. The last I heard they were experimenting with a single account running on Wordpress architecture somehow. Guess that’s not happening now either. Or Matt doesn’t know it’s happening.

@laurenshof Yea to be honest, there are better options out there now than Tumblr.
