@billseitz that is bridged from Bluesky which handles rich text and yes Mastodon clients all render it correctly.
I haven’t been scheduled posting very much which still has square brackets for now.

@billseitz in the post you linked, it’s a Bluesky post which does it natively (no markdown)
MicroDotBlog also supports rich text and syndicates to AP and ATProto with their native rich text
