I'm attending the @EUCommission's #NGIForum25 in Brussels today and am super happy to finally see essential #FOSS digital service providers being better represented in the policy debates, e.g. with speakers from @Mastodon, @xwiki and @Taler@fosstodon.org-related projects. 馃帀

I'm only an hour into the conference but am a bit worried already about the #DigitalSovereignty topic to be -- again -- mostly discussed as a geopolitical issue like the #EuroStack rather than from a user freedom and individual autonomy angle. Let's see where the discussion goes...

Unfortunate discussion now about how much #BuyEuropean should be considered, and in which surprisingly the European Parliament advisor Lukasz Klejnowski makes the important point that it can't be about the EU being fully autonomous.
Tech is global, the internet is global, and that's a good thing. And we can support and buy ethical tech globally as well.
Just listening to the speech of the @EUCommission's DG Connect Director Thibaut Kleiner, who celebrates #FOSS and the global ecosystem of #opensource developers as well as the #NGI programme but somehow his convictions seem to not be enough for the Commission to massively scale up investments in the #digitalcommons. What am I missing? 馃
So cool to now also see @matrix's @Amandine at #NGIForum25 to speak about sovereign and secure messaging #infrastructure (and strongly warn against the nationalist version of the digital #sovereignty narrative 馃挭):
