The "Auld Lang Syne" song lyrics are derived from a poem by Robert Burns (1759–1796). The song reflects upon old friendships that have stood the test of time, and begins with a rhetorical question, "Should old acquaintance be forgot?"

“Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne?”

“Auld Lang Syne” is literally “Old long since..” or more in more modern speech: “…times gone by.”

The image features a high-key, bright, and desaturated colour palette, creating a serene and ethereal mood. The composition is dominated by the expansive, smooth surface of the water, which mirrors the pale sky. A dark, rugged cliff face provides a strong contrast on the right side of the frame. The minimalist style emphasizes shape, light, and texture over specific details of the location. It is a timeless and calm image here on the Isle of Skye, my home.
