We've had this house plant for a few months now, and I hadn't realised it flowered until this friendly bloom popped up out of nowhere last week. Meet Alsobia dianthiflora (aka Lace Flower).

A single white flower with mauve dots along each petal. The edge of the flower is cut so that there are dozens of finger-like protrusions reaching out. It looks a bit like a sea anemone waving its tentacles in the passing current. There are leaves in the background, and the plant sits in a wicker basket, the rim of which we can see just below and behind the flower.
