I closely read the first half of this article. It hurt my brain. It's like reading cult writings (which I've done), full of logic-canceling loaded language.
It reminds me of the substantive post I read a few months ago about the meaning of "solarpunk," (I can't find it — it was going around).
I stopped injuring myself when she starts on how paperclip-punk (VERY important it's lower case to know a HUMAN made it) started as a website atheistic (light blue print on white), and said a disparaging thing about *dark mode*.
I DO get it. For people who don't understand anything about anything, but who want status and to be admired more than anything else, they latch on to 100% form over 0% function. Because they believe everything to be about form. Reality is created through form. Their status is created through form. They mimick what real punks and real artists do.
Paperclip-Punk (capitalized because I'm a REAL rebel) makes perfect sense to this type of person. Since they don't understand the MEANING behind the art that real people are creating, they think this era's "decoy" surface-level art is "fication-fication," or just making things LOOK like other things. To them, Robocop in Ghibli style (my example) doesn't have any underlying meaning derived from the themes of Robocop plus the themes of Ghibli movies. There is no real symbolism or thought to anything. They stop at the surface. It's paper clothes clipped to paper dolls. No wonder they love ChatGPT so much!
Unfortunately, this type of "ideologue" (they don't have ideals) currently owns and runs the machineries of power, and, well, the machines.
To an extent, they are right. Unlike art, power is largely illusory. Psychology trickery. Fairy food. Manufactured consent.
The word "prestige" used to mean "stage magic," and "glamour" was a fae illusion.
Power can be bested by dispelling its lies.
They aren't as powerful as they look.
And knowing that is punk.
