First very rough draft of Chapter 20, the final chapter, of #Cooperative_enterprise_and_Market_Economy by @luisrazeto is done. Three chapters to edit and then an appendix, but nearly there.
Just sent off Chapter 17 of #cooperative_enterprise_and_Market_Economy by @luisrazeto to the indefatigable GEO.Coop webwizard, @GuerillaOntologist
One of the important aspects of this work is that cooperative economic theory is grounded in history and practice, in this case, that of people in the Global South.
First draft of Chapter 19 of 20 in #cooperative_enterprise_and_Market_Economy by @luisrazeto is done. It's a dense one, very interesting. I can't wait to revise it. But, I think I will do a first draft of Chapter 20 first.
Razeto turns the famously unrealistic notion of "perfect competition" on its head, making it a description of the conditions of a democratic market in which Capital has been subordinated to Labor and Community.
What becomes of the State? Next chapter...
Just all but finished Chapter 17 of #Cooperative_enterprise_and_Market_Economy by @luisrazeto My introductory note is a little long, but I get excited. This time I got to refer to #quilombos, #SebastiãoSalgado, #post-development theory, and #AnwarShaikh.
One more round of revision and it's on to Chapter 18, on Cooperativism, Crisis and Transformation of the Market.
First draft of Chapter 17 of #cooperative_enterprise_and_Market_Economy done. I seem to be getting messier toward the end, but it's because I am eager to get to a coffee shop to do the editing.
In this one -- Cooperativism and the Capitalist Market -- @luisrazeto takes on the idea of a "determined market," in this case the global market as experienced in late 20thc. Latin-America. One reason this book is important is the "Global South" pov. It speaks to current trends up North, now, as well.
For many years I have been a member of the Japan Robert Owen Association. I have a lot of respect for my fellow members, including Nakagawa Yuichiro, Suzuki Takeshi, Ishizuka Hideo, and Kubo Yurie. Since returning to the US, I continue to write an annual article for the journal. This time, I am sending excerpts from 2 chapters of #cooperative_enterprise_and_Market_Economy in which @luisrazeto, following Gramsci, returns to early cooperative thinkers like Owen and Gide.

Just sent off Chapter 16 of #cooperative_enterprise_and_Market_Economy to @GuerillaOntologist at geo.coop.
"Because it includes relations of social forces and “extra-economic” elements like ideology and politics, the application of Gramsci’s concept of a “determined market” ... requires an approach that distinguishes between, but articulates, theory and practice, science and ideology, structure and history."
It’s an impressive effort by @luisrazeto and I think it works.
Second, nearly final, draft of Chapter 16 is done. This is a tricky one, lots of conceptual language that needs to be handled with care -- small changes can have serious implications. I also have to write a short introduction, a very different process from translating.
First draft of Chapter 16 done. Very rough. Had me searching for an obscure article by Bernard Lavergne, apparently published in Spanish translation, in an Italian journal. I didn't track it down, but I did get a crash course in the career of Lavergne and a sense of the debates about cooperative socialism (Yugoslavia and Guyana). It also reminded me of Lavergne's more famous collaborator Charles Gide and the evolution of social economy.

Just sent off Chapter 15 of #cooperative_Enterprise_and_Market_Economy by @luisrazeto to the most august GEO.coop websteward @GuerillaOntologist .
I enjoyed this chapter, a crucial one, and the re-reading of Gramsci it required. I continue to think that Razeto's project: creating an economic theory adequate to the study of non-capitalist economic relations, especially cooperativism, is urgently needed. How many cooperativists continue to rely on mainstream mystifications like "the market"?

Just finished draft one of Chapter 15 of #Cooperative_Enterprise_and_Market_Economy by @luisrazeto, a short chapter, but it took hours of multilingual Gramsci sleuthing. I can't complain - it got me back into the Prison Notebooks, reading them in the best way, which is not in straight sequence, but jumping around, following leads with a question in mind. It brought to my attention important passages and concepts to which I had not given careful attention. Thank goodness for the Internet Archive!
Finished the second draft of Chapter 14, along with my introduction; almost there. As usual, I am happy with most of my choices, nervous about a few, and aware that there are blind spots where it should sound weird to me but doesn't. Mostly, I am excited to go on to the next section: Cooperativism and the Democratization of the Market and the State.
Just sent off Chapter 13 of #Cooperative_Enterprise_and_Market_Economy by @luisrazeto to our indispensable @GEO_Collective web editor, @GuerillaOntologist
This one is about cooperative integration, aka intercooperation, and makes an interesting argument for a cooperative movement based in associated individuals and base communities, not the federated organizations model taken from the union movement.
The next chapter is about integration of economic operations.

The first, very rough, draft of chapter 14 is done! Looking forward to some good cafe time, revising, solving puzzles, finding little fixes...

Chapter 12 of the English translation of #Cooperative_Enterprise_and_Market_Economy by @luisrazeto is all but done. One more round of proofing, then it's off to @GEO_Collective
Bringing "extra-economic" elements like society, ethics, and politics back into the picture, "Razeto... locates the source problem of cooperativism, and the basis for worker solidarity, at a level deeper than that of ownership and property, whether collective or private: the level of labor and co-creation."
