Had a very disappointing discussion about AI at synagogue last night.
After explicitly laying out the harm people running AI do to the environment and to the people who work to 'train' AI, in addition to the harm of AI hallusinations and stolen copyright...
When I asked if people thought that it was possible for AI to be used ethically... everyone just took it as a given that it was and started discussing what use cases would and wouldn't be ethical, completely ignoring how ALL those use cases perpetuated the harms we had just been discussing.
