A rise in the terrain which, based on exposed rock face, may mean it’s all the top of a rocky spine. But that’s not what we’re looking at, we’re marveling at the tree which grew up sprawled across this rock with large roots headed out in at least two directions to balance itself. But even that isn’t as unusual as what happened to the trunk somewhere along the line many decades ago when it tried to grow, got bent over (tree fell?), then ran into an obstacle or two (more downed trees?) and finally did a complete 360° turn back to upright leaving a knotted twist between roots and the main trunk

I’m not sure where the line is between trunk and root, or even where things start and end here, but the scene includes three small, old cut off trunks in various states of rotting and in the middle is, let’s say, a root coming out of the ground, doing a series of 90° turns and maybe going back into the ground? The result is a rough trapezoid shape.

A very large boulder sticking 5’ or so above the surrounding ground with a even larger tree growing “out” of it and looking a lot like an octopus perched on top with limbs, er, roots going in all directions and many of them zig-zagging, interlacing, even splitting to make a mash.

A tree, growing on top of a very large granite outcropping with more rock nearby, has on thick root going to the left and down side of rock to presumably some soil, a bigger one going off to the right, and somewhere around that there’s a loop-de-loop of a root that maybe had a plan of going down and then changed its mind? Hard to say.

A tree, like any young tree, the grew straight up and then about 10 feet above the ground had some kind of even which caused the trunk to rotate through an almost 360° loop and then start growing mostly upwards again.

A large glacial erratic boulder in a mostly clear area of woods. It has mosses growing on the sides and top, but also, near the helm at the top is a tree. No visible roots coming down the two sides we can see, so maybe there’s a crack further back that the roots followed to reach the ground.
