📣 This is feminicide: the most brutal expression of gender-based violence (GBV) - basically patriarchy at work. And it is reinforced and entrenched by racism, capitalism, colonialism, imperialism, Zionism, cis-heteronormativity, transphobia, ableism, and violent migration and border regimes.
Feminicide exposes patriarchy’s logic: granting men control and power over the lives and bodies of women, trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse people.
🚫And the numbers don’t lie: here in the Netherlands almost weekly - every 8 days - a woman is killed. In nearly 60% of cases, by her partner or ex-partner.
🔔 Given recent events, it seems that we need to put this out there: neither patriarchy nor feminicide know borders, and they do not belong to a specific culture. They are endemic everywhere. Yet migrant and racialized communities are constantly scapegoated for violence embedded in all societies.
