The Hackberry Emperor butterfly, whose only host plant is the hackberry tree. This not the first I've seen this week...Which fits as I've had so many young hackberry trees pop up in the yards this year, hinting at a hidden larger tree nearby.
Grow hackberry, get butterfly! Yay!

A gorgeous orange butterfly with white and black spots, making the wings appear similar to a monarchs, but more lace-like. It is facing away from the camera on a wooden railing with a large, dried splooch of bird poo on it. There are green leaves of passionflower vines in the background that are near a medium sized hackberry tree in the raised garden bed.
