Mahāśivarātri is a commemoration of the night-long celebration aimed at overcoming our darkness and ignorance. It denotes a multitude of events such as the manifestation of the cosmic Śivaliṅg, union of Lord Śiva and Goddess Pārvatī, and the consumption of Halāhal.
