A small sample of the many Eastern Water Dragons around campus as the weather warms up.

They all have their defined territories but sometimes the world's slowest territorial disputes occur, whereby an invading party very very slowly encroaches on an existing territory and there is much head bobbing and circling.

#AustralianWildlife #WildOz #EasternWaterDragon

One half of a territorial dispute. This large male is the interloper. It has its mouth slightly ajar and is trying to look threatening.

Another juvenile water dragon. It has bolder stripes and mottling and blends in nicely with the tree bark of the tree it is sitting on.

Before I went to find the pardalotes and bee-eaters, I encountered the local pelican population.

This one had clearly got the memo that chairs were for sitting, but didn't quite know how they worked.

#AustralianWildlife #WildOz #Bird #AustralianPelican

The same pelican, briefly awake and looking at the photographer, but it didn't bother to change position on the back of the chair.

This is one of our resident Pied Currawongs that turn up and ask for a few sultanas as a snack.

It might be the one Lea calls Horatio, although it might be the other one (lets call it Yorrik for arguments sake). They're difficult to ID individually, but together Yorrik is the smaller of the two.

#AustralianWildlife #WildOz #PiedCurrawong #bird

A mostly black bird, similar to an Australian Magpie in shape and size, but with a more formidable beak, and beady yellow eyes. You can't see it here, but it has white on its wings and tail feathers (thus the Pied name). It is standing on a green veranda railing. There are a few sultanas on the railing, and palm trees behind.

Small bird, HUGE feet.

A sub-adult Comb-crested Jacana I spotted this morning at work. Its comb is now almost fully formed so it's pretty close to adulthood.

It has a white body with brown wings, black shoulder stripe, a little buff on the sides of the neck, dark brown cap, but a red comb and shield on its face. The legs are pale yellow and the feet are about as wide as the body is long.

Went for a lunchtime walk, found the ducklings again. Still seven, which is nice. Very attentive parents.

I did need to encourage them to get off the road at one point though, since students & tradies aren't very attentive when driving.
