tl;dr: I removed the “nginx proxy manager” add-on, and replaced it with the Let’s Encrypt add-on and (second) the nginx add-on.

Meh. I have ran Home Assistant in a venv for years (despite Frenck saying otherwise, LOL) - but with support for it dropped I switched to HAOS too. From a technical perspective, it runs fine. Feeling-wise different story though.
@h3artbl33d That feels very much like my experience!
A shame really. I do still ponder whether to go back, despite unsupported. But at this point it feels like taking a gamble with my home - which I prefer to Just Work ™️. And cosplaying / moonlighting as a NOC engineer outside of $dayjob is a bit meh too.
Perhaps I'll tinker with venvs for the less 'critical' stuff.
@h3artbl33d @bjc @neil I see a lot of hate for the home assistant container. I deployed my instance in this manner when I didn't know better. Aside from the normal hurdle of USB passthrough (for Zigbee adapter) I don't really have any issues. I know this is a "well good for you" thing, but some insight into the regular issues people face would be interesting to read.
I certainly don't hate it, and I'm grateful that anyone has bothered spending the significant time and care which has clearly been expended on the project *at all*.
Personally, I am no fan of containers; I'd prefer a bare metal installation, under my own control.
