@dansup 💯 on not making every fediverse platform an “everything app.” Demanding to see any and all fediverse content on Pixelfed is shortsighted.

That said, I think filtering should ideally happen based on the type of media, not on the software platform. Photography isn't my thing, but I know WordPress has a nice community of photo bloggers.

I have feelings about the caption piece.

There is some part of me that really wants them to be able to be made mandatory by admins. (To be fair I do not know if this is already a feature)

I understand a vision impaired or blind person isn't a primary user for a photo sharing tool.

Just thinking about this in the context of the Title 2 ruling in the US about the ADA.

@dansup this is tricky! Fediverse as delivery mechanism, how do you get photo friends from their gotosocial in your feed? Meanwhile I agree that WP header images don't qualify to get the same treatment as another pixelfedder's photo shoots.

Is this maybe a display concern more than one of federation?

@dansup just make it a setting. One of the main selling points of the fediverse imo is only needing a single platform to be able to follow everybody

Maybe just give us - users - options to see what we want?
Timeline settings > visibility > checkboxes with notes, photos, video, blogposts... whatever

And i am sure that you will find even people who would like to use pixelfed without photos 😉
Because UI of pixfed is great for reading blogposts of other people

@dansup I have LOADS of Pixelfed posts iny feed that are stills taken from a YouTube video and a link to it (quite prevalent when I search for the tag #ADHD or #Audhd. If I wanted a link to a video I'd go somewhere else and I understand it's someone quite well meaning, but Pixelfed is primarily for image sharing, not link sharing.

If I follow an wordpress account, I want to see what they post 🤷‍♂️

maybe you don't want to see it. but I have 2 accounts
the nerdy one -> mastodon
the music related on -> pixelfed.

so I follow all the music stuff with my pixelfed account.

So just because YOU don't want it, doesn't mean others don't want it

@dansup maybe we should do a poll about this. I certainly DO want to see image posts from other platforms in Pixelfed even if they are from articles.
