Ok so the trouble with introucing a potential link to the alpha quadrant in the 5th episode of the season is... At no point we are invested in this story line because we know it' gonna fail.
I guess you could play with dramatic irony, but this is not really what this episode is going for.

I mean, I prefer if Janeway decide to remove the Ferengi from the place, but this is not Voyager's mission and Janeway have been uninterested with helping exploited people in literally the last episode.
I guess the Prime Directive doesn't really apply when Ferengi are concerned but I'm pretty sure there is a degree of xenophoia in her choice to help some people or not.

That seems unlikely that Janeway would have passed the opportunity to send a maximum of people back home given the chance.

I don't know why Neelix revealing himself is changing anything for the Ferengi... They could have just killed him and not care.
The way Star Trek depict "primitive" people is frankly insulting.
The idea that people from a "superior" culture can come and easily use the superstition of an "inferior" culture to manipulate an entire population is wrong, racist and rooted in seriously repulsive colonialism.
It's not a problem specific to Star Trek, but Star Trek regularly indulge in it, and it sucks.
This is stupid, they all could have jumped in the wormhole before letting a single occasion for the Ferengi to escape...
Yeah this ending sucks... It was obvious from the start the wormhole would be unusable for Voyager.
But the worst part of this is... They could have escaped. They could have actually be sending crew member back for the whole time, communicate with home which was a big issue in a previous episode. The Wormhole was stable enough that they though they could finish their business with the Ferengi and not immediately rush toward it the moment they beamed them aboard.
They should have just not bother with the wormhole, because it's just a giant plot hole.
