I only see my doctor about once every 5-6 years. Saw him today.
I have been blessed w/doctors who listen closely, and who just tell the truth.
Having heard all of the evidence, he pronounced: 1) All the really bad things it could be involve bloody mucus, and you don't have that. 2) All the really minor things it could be involve fever and upper-GI (nausea) issues, and you don't have that. 3) The most likely outcome is that it will end soon, and we'll never know what it was or why it ended.
I find that rather reassuring.
Yes, we drew blood. Yes, I have to collect two nasty samples.
But he was pretty direct: it's unlikely they'll prove anything at all. You got sick. You're still sick. You'll most likely get better soon.
Wash your fucking hands (I do) and avoid other people (I do).

I tried to explain to one of my gee-kids when she turned 20: in this life, you need three people with skills who you trust: 1) a doctor, 2) a mechanic, 3) a plumber.
If you can find one each of those who you actually trust, we call that *winning*.
She pish-pished me. For the first decade of her adulthood. :)
The woman who drew my blood today was remarkably fast and 100% painless. I mean, seriously, quick like a bunny, she was, and there was not "a little pinch".
I thought of a poem I'd read, I thought it was Bukowski, but I can't find any trace of it, and it seems inordinately cheerful for Bukowski, so I don't know.
It mentions a "perky little phlebotomist named Rose".
If you can find the quote, that would be delightful.

@GeePawHill A good phlebotomist is a wonderful thing to encounter, indeed. My doctor is fantastic in most of the ways you recount, but he suuucks at drawing blood.
