It’s funny that the pali word for Suffering is ‘dukkha’ as if it’s a special kind of pain; in bangla it just means ‘sadness’. I have to remind myself that - Life is not just sadness. #buddhism #language

@farah I've also heard it translated as "dissatisfaction".
Which I almost think is a better word because I think it better reflects the idea of attachments being the cause.

@farah That's a good word too.

I think "suffering" is used mostly as an emotional hook. We tend to give more emotional weight to someone who is "suffering" rather then simply "dissatisfied" or "disappointed".

Like my girlfriend had a big issue with the word "suffering" in the 4 Noble Truths because she associates it with "torture". She feels much more comfortable using "dissatisfaction".
