@julian Thanks ! Now I understand better your thoughts on this interstitial page. I was actually expecting some sort of Encyclia home page, mimicking the ORCID record in the fediverse way, something that would look like a Mastodon home page (e.g. https://fediscience.org/@fresseng).

My idea there was for people that are familiar with ORCID but not with the Fediverse. That would have helped them to get on board.

My final idea for tonight is for an interstitial page that is not halfway between the two views. The problem with a short countdown and only a short glimpse of the interstitial page is that these few seconds do not allow you to understand what is going on. I would thus be more in favour of totally hiding it, with a prompt redirection if that make sense, or, the other way around, showing it in full and make it more user-friendly.

I do not know which is the best. I have a slight preference for the second option.

@fresseng Thank you! Yes, Encyclia is a bit between two chairs with the account pages.

Part of what I discussed with Tom Demeranville was that Encyclia's goal isn't to be a replacement for the ORCID website, so if someone wants to look at the list of publications, we try to redirect them to ORCID.

But also, while Encyclia isn't yet well-established, people may need the URLs to pull up specific posts on the Fediverse. So I ended up providing a list, but making it kinda hidden / “for experts”.

Thanks! Good point indeed! Encyclia should not, indeed, replicate orcid. I had not though of that. With that in mind, I feel that the compromise you found is pretty much the best I can think of.

Maybe one suggestion though. As you could implement the #wait feature, maybe you could introduce a #x feature, where x is the countdown time in seconds (which could be down to zero) 🤔

@fresseng Yeah, some of these design questions would be more straightforward if ORCID had been more open to the idea of building ActivityPub support directly into their own platform. 😄

That's a good suggestions! I have now made it so you can use “ #wait=10” (or any other number) to customize the delay in seconds. 0 works for an immediate redirect, but you can also have a longer one. Just “ #wait” without a number still removes the countdown entirely.

@julian Great ! Just used it on my home page ! Yes, the product team at orcid is not so large, and they have to say focused. Maybe in the future, if Encyclia gets the success it deserves.

@julian Did you see the @Bonfire is now an orcid certified service provider ? There surely could be some positive interplay between Encyclia and the Open Science Network.

@fresseng Yes, I was happy to see that! 😀 I/we have been thinking about interoperability and had an exchange about it 1.5 weeks ago.
