Health Secy RFKJr plans to announce that use of Kenvue's popular over-the-counter pain medication Tylenol in pregnant women is potentially linked to #autism, WSJ reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter, WITHOUT including #EVIDENCE for the claims.

@Nonilex NO IT'S NOT.

"Tylenol" is a US brand name for paracetamol (known in the USA as Acetaminophen) which, in even mild overdose, is acutely hepatotoxic. Here in the UK, before package size was limited to 16 tablets, it was the leading cause of drug-related deaths after alcohol and tobacco. Take as few as 8-12 if you have comorbidities and you can destroy your liver: death ensues in 3-7 days, painfully.

(Nothing to do with autism, though: RFK is still a kook.)

A doctor here (Victoria, Australia) wrote a book about this because he dealt with far too many people (mostly teenage girls, IIRC) who thought overdosing on paracetamol was a cry for help, a suicide attempt that couldn't succeed, because paracetamol is harmless, right?

He had to explain they just killed their liver, they had about a month to find a transplant or die.

Paracetamol side effects can include death? Science.

Paracetamol side effects can include autism? Bullshit.

#RFKJr, in a report, will also claim a medicine derived from #folate called folinic acid can be used to treat symptoms of #autism in some people, the WSJ reported. [guessing he owns #stock in whatever company makes it]

#Shares of #Kenvue fell 14% after the report [because people are crazy]. #Tylenol, whose active ingredient is #acetaminophen, is a very safe widely used pain reliever, including by pregnant women.

The report, expected this month from the US Department of #Health & Human Services, which #RFKJr heads, is likely to highlight how low levels of #folate, an important vitamin, & #Tylenol taken during pregnancy, could be a potential cause of #autism, the report said.

So fucking stupid it hurts.

#Kenvue said in a statement that it believes there is no causal link between #Tylenol use during pregnancy & #autism. The company advises expecting mothers to speak to #healthcare PROFESSIONALS [& not listen to brain worm crazy morons] before taking OTC medications, including Tylenol.

The #FDA & leading #medical orgs agree on the safety of acetaminophen, its use during pregnancy, & the information provided on the label," the co said.
