It's interesting to reread my "Embrace, Extend, and Exploit" article from late 2023. Meta has certainly been exploiting their fedi adventure for all it's worth but they've backed off on their embrace and haven't gone the "decentralized surveillance capitalism" route i thought they might. The strong resistance from #FediPact and the Free Fediverse is certainly a factor, although not the only one. But, just like fascists everywhere, they're not going away, so we need to stay vigilant.
