The idea that people from a "superior" culture can come and easily use the superstition of an "inferior" culture to manipulate an entire population is wrong, racist and rooted in seriously repulsive colonialism.
It's not a problem specific to Star Trek, but Star Trek regularly indulge in it, and it sucks.

I mean, I prefer if Janeway decide to remove the Ferengi from the place, but this is not Voyager's mission and Janeway have been uninterested with helping exploited people in literally the last episode.
I guess the Prime Directive doesn't really apply when Ferengi are concerned but I'm pretty sure there is a degree of xenophoia in her choice to help some people or not.
She is playing the "we're only cleaning up Picard's mess" card. Which... Ok, fair. But your attitude is nevertheless noted Kathryn.
