I was sure that I could just connect via ethernet and install the Firmware app and then install the Broadcom firmware from there. But no, Firmware can not see the Broadcom chip!

But thankfully I found a guide on cyberciti.biz... Yeah, that sounds sketchy, but it worked! But it was a bit long, and Firmware still doesn't see the chip even now! So this is not ideal. Why is it so hard to install?

Anyway, Fedora is a bit too slow on this machine, me thinks.

Anyone has any distro to recommend for a mid 2012 MacBook Pro? Personal experience would be great!

Thanks!

@forteller I think debian is great, but with some tinktering Void Linux will give you a bit more performence. tried on a x230 with 3.gen intel i5. its definately faster then fedora. but it may cause problems with the wifi driver because it doesn't use gnu libc. wising you luck for the last part

@forteller My project nixbook installer will put in the broadcom drivers.

You need ethernet or a usb adapter to install, but once you reboot, the internal stuff works.

@forteller Fedora moment
If you can connect it over Bluetooth or USB tethering or over Ethernet then you can install the drivers after the fact
