Although Valdivia & White were the primary signatories to the sentencing memo in Taranto’s case, the document also bore the name of #USAttorney #JeaninePirro, who was nominated for the role by #Trump.
The suspensions follow efforts by Trump & allies to rewrite the narrative of the #Jan6. Trump, in one of his first EOs after his return to the White House in January, pardoned hundreds of people who had been convicted of participating in the #insurrection….
Since then, the #DOJ has dismissed or reassigned several of the prosecutors who led cases against those accused in the #insurrection, particularly in the #USattorney’s office for #DC, where Valdivia & White work.
Prosecutors charged Taranto, a 39-yo married father of 2, in 2023 with misdemeanors stemming from his role in the #Jan6 attack.

In court filings, they said Taranto had entered the building with the crowd of #Trump supporters & later tussled with MPD officers who were trying to repel the crowds. Once forced outside, court documents allege, Taranto also fought with other #insurrection participants on the Capitol steps, using his cane to fend them off.

All charges related to Taranto’s conduct at the Capitol that day were dismissed as a result of #Trump’s clemency orders.
By that time, however, prosecutors had charged Taranto with additional #crimes stemming from a return trip he made to Washington in June 2023. He live-streamed himself making threats against several high-profile people & the headquarters of the National Institute of Standards & Technology, acc/to an arrest affidavit filed in his case.
