F1 in Bahrain... in Malaysia: The race needed a software update to start
A software bug waylaid half the field and required a race reboot.

I started blogging on October 7, 1994. Thirty-two years on Wednesday. The longest running blog, and it's still even worse than it appears.
@davew Congrats Dave!
Third time in a week i get in the same exact debate and argument on AI with good colleagues who i think should know better (although the latest at least doesn't seem to have much sympathy for the face-eaten-by-leopard mathematicians who cuddled the face-eating leopards). I want out of this universe line, someone please call Hugh Everett urgently.
I hate to over-simplify, but here's what I recommend for a #CSS architecture:
- use selectors for selecting (not for specificity)
- use data-attributes for grouped selector patterns
- use at-layer for layering selector priority (widely available)
- use at-scope for scoping selectors (newly available)
- use nesting for modifiers on a selector
@mia Can you explain what you mean by "use data-attributes for grouped selector patterns" ?
If I only share pretty pictures of the sky will that make the satellites go away?
(I know the answer to this question... back to work...)
@sundogplanets every time I pay Comcast for internet I start looking at options and that ends with starlink in the best bet for where I live in suburban America. Then I come here and remember maybe paying Comcast isn’t the worst.
The prophesy said that the utilitarians' prosperity would take the perpetual misery of a single child.
(But what about the ones who walk away? Joke's on them: they will be left behind!)

AI glasses face their first major government crackdown
Norway wants time to write permanent rules for glasses that can record bystanders.

@smallcircles Perhaps if you hadn't started with "same boat" followed by "chose" and "privileged" it would have come across with different intent?
@slowe chose once, can't afford one now, happy to have alternatives.

Hey #UnionPlace family! I need your help.
We've got about 230 active users. The cloud hosting bill for the instance is a bit over $500/mo. We're down to about $100/mo of income from people-who-are-not-me.
That means I'm out of pocket $400+/mo to keep this going, and that's not super sustainable, even with my employer's non-profit matching cutting that in half.
I don't want to shut down the instance, but I can't keep up this level of funding either. What does the community think?

Are there ways we might be able to coordinate occasional/quarterly/annual donations better?
Monthly autopayments are a bit of a luxery for folks with reliable disposable income, BUT a few bucks in the hat when its possible has been a grassroots way.
How do we know when piecemeal donations pay off?
Could we be having a party or little event periodically to celebrate and organize microfunds? Something unfancy and to the point, maybe.
“Fascism, above all of the Trumpian variety, is a synthesis of America’s settler-colonial roots, capitalist exploitation, and imperialist expansionism that appeals to an increasingly exposed American bourgeoisie scrambling for cover in an era of mounting crises. Each of these defining social forces could push diasporic assimilation in a fascistic direction in its own right, in addition to combining with the others to compound that pressure…
‘There’s a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart that you can’t take part! You can’t even passively take part! And you’ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus—and you’ve got to make it stop!’.” ~ Mario Savio

I don’t care where you started out on the political spectrum.
If your kid comes out as trans & you don’t become a rainbow-clad, parade-cheering ally & rock-solid supportive girl/boy/enby dad/mom?
You were never a parent at all.
You were a doll collector furious they didn’t stay in their packaging.
If you can go every level of ham to support their travel hockey league, whether you like hockey or not, you can do it to support their deepest hearts & souls.
For fuck’s sake.
Cheers from Czechia!
