Really didn’t think that so many American and European tech people who had grandparents heavily affected by a world-wide war started by fascists would choose to become fascists, but here we are.
@yukijoou It's up to you but I think if you swallowed the bite you took, you ate it.
I
Have purchased
A new printer
Forgive me
The old one
Has a shagged drum
And is about 25 years old
@jpm What'd you end up buying? We were thinking ours might need replacing after I gloated about it the other day, but it come good again.
But I've seriously no idea what to replace it with when the time comes - colour laser, networked, integrated scanner with duplex and sheet feeder, you put all those features in and $$$
The legendary Cliff Stoll gave a delightful talk at DEFCON on Stalking The Wily Hacker (40 Years Later) at DEFCON. It's now online. If you've never seen Cliff, a Klein Bottle, or an overhead projector before, rush over to the youtubes and fix that right now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=656058JxTM0
@mattblaze Back about when he was blowing glass, I had an email exchange with Cliff Stoll. He offered to make me a Klein bottle and I said OK since I’ve always been fascinated by them. So when I saw the bottle in the video, it unlocked a bunch of memories. So that was cool.
@hboon Unless there's a specific reason not to, I tend to write my prompts in my native language, Korean. Within the Korean developer community, there's some talk that writing prompts in English is more token-efficient, but I don't think that's been proven. Even if it were true, I keep using Korean because I feel it's better for conveying subtle nuances and giving detailed instructions compared to writing in English.
@hongminhee Thanks. That's interesting to know.
If you were my husband and you had fallen asleep on the couch would you want me to wake you up so you could get into actual bed or just leave you be? Think carefully, you recommendation will have consequences.
@seldo I always prefer to be woken if it means cuddles with my partner in bed! 😅
@codemonkey85 Yeah I imagine that might be the catch. The original HomePod was surely not designed for AI, and surely not for Apple's approach to AI which is, in part, to run as much on-device as possible.
Personally, I could take or leave all that stuff. I actually like Siri for the things it's good for, and I just want a much better speaker inside. Current mini sounds so terrible. *So* terrible.
@chartier we used to use ours as speakers for the living room TV, but we gave up on that 😅

Some of Lenovo's Motorola phones will come with security-minded GrapheneOS pre-installed. This is something of a breakthrough. https://www.androidpolice.com/privacy-focused-grapheneos-to-launch-on-motorola-flagship-phones-in-2027/
Paranoia Fest. And we won't tell you where it's held!
Google's brilliant "lay off all the senior people with taste and experience" plan is going swimmingly.
@slightlyoff I'm not sure if I'm more confused by an eyedropper as a clock icon or the eyedropper itself being so misaligned.
every time I read “frontier model” I hear this
@thomasfuchs It upsets me that so few people who know this song also know the Wayne&Shuster source it takes the clip from. So here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nu8_uDydq7w

I'm done engaging with the election doomers here. They're indistinguishable from an influence operation, except that they're more smugly self-satisfied wallowing in their own fatalism.
@mattblaze I don't think I'm usually very conspiratorial, but I can't belief believe you haven't already written off your various packs of naysayers and detractors as 100% a concerted, organized sabotage. You give them too much credit by even engaging with them.
A thoughtful critique is one thing. A pack of emotive salience grinders is another.
