@sarahjamielewis While it is understandable why TB/MB stable uses ESR via base browser, ESR is a meme. Considering Firefox is already behind in security compared to Chromium, using ESR, which does not receive all the security fixes that the regular release does, makes it worse.

@morrick I also remember how different the rules were back then. There were all kinds of cool apps like unauthorized third-party clients for everything and pirate music streaming apps that used VK.

Then Apple launched Apple Music and the latter category disappeared overnight because all of a sudden, "illegal file sharing" became a big deal that these kinds of apps inevitably get rejected over.

Breaking other services' ToS also gradually became a no-no, even when it's in the interest of people.

@jonny okay I have been reading your "goggling at LLM trainwreck" posts and thinking about this off and on for a while. I don't know a lot about programming but like. would it not be possible to make "coding assistant"-type things vastly better and more reliable by simply not coding them with LLMs, or even not coding them with LLMs as much

like, have the bones of the system be actual deterministic normal code that deals with sending things to the API, logging messages, sending code to a build/CI system or whatever, and the LLM is just used to "translate" machine-esque output into chatty natural language and vice versa. it still wouldn't be perfect but it would be a little more functional…right?

like i don't mean to Design A Better Torment Nexus but i feel like "a standard installation wizard/website template/etc. but the front end is a chatbot that walks you through it" could be actually useful for people who are scared of tech. IF it wasn't itself LLM spaghetti code.

Ich glaube gerne, dass ein LLM nen Exploit gegen Huggingfaces Infras gefahren hat. Aber der war nicht autonom. OpenAI sagt selbst im Blogpost dazu, dass sie die Guardrails ausgemacht haben und dann einen Cyberangriff geprompted haben. Sie haben also Sicherheitsfeatures ausgeschaltet und dann eine Waffe aufs Internet gerichtet. (Ob Huggingface wirklich zufällig getroffen wurde oder ob da beide Firmen eine PR Situation gesehen haben, kann ich nicht sagen.)

My oldest is using the free brilliant.org (math and such) service but I guess it's going well and my partner suggested we get a real/paid account for him. It's $20/mo!

But, this is one of those services that flood youtube with sponsorship codes ("visit brilliant.com/whatever for 30% off!" or whatever).

Does anyone have a good and reputable youtuber/"content creator" who has an active discount code I should use?

ZSH people: I keep thinking I should switch from ancient Bash to ZSH on my Mac, and each time I try it I last about two minutes. Is there a simple way to make its tab completion not overwrite stuff I've already typed? And not put random spaces in the middle of paths that it's completing so that the next tab starts again from the current directory instead of adding the next path component?

Everyone tells me zsh has much better completion support than bash, but I want it to do the baseline stuff as well before I start trying the complicated things.
