My #BattleVest is done.
For now… there is space to be filled organically over time.
@jim Five Iron Frenzy?
Looks like I took a wrong turn at Albuquerque
There's nothing funny about knocking your funny bone. We should rename it the fucking cunt bone.

the company that pretends to protect kids by lobbying for age verification at OS level very hard also introduced these Meta glasses with AI that record everything and send back to its server. Is anyone seeing irony in it? Does Meta understands what they are doing?
First time seeing a “NO META GLASSES” sign in the door of a shop! I’m not surprised… and I expect we might see more of these kind of things in the years ahead.
@AnarchoNinaWrites there's thing with carceral punishment too, very dark stuff.
well-cared for state-sanctioned execution, death of choice with limited exclusions. legal suicide, also death of choice with limited exclusions. are, to me, more humane options than carceral systems.
pro-prison people creep me out a bit.
@melioristicmarie I'm torn - I'm a prison abolitionist, but also nobody is gonna let me march like 80M nazis into the sea, so I'm at a point where "I believe in proson abolition firmly, but I am also starting to understand why the Soviets built gulags the size of football fields to keep their fascists out of the way."
Of course, that ends in political enemies in the camps - just as it did in the USSR. But I am out of good answers for "what do we do about the nazis" that won't get me arrested.
💸💸 This Data Center Is Getting a $77 Million Tax Break to Create One Job
「 On a February morning in 2024, a little-known agency in Rockland County held a public hearing on a proposed subsidy for the expansion of a JPMorganChase data center in Orangeburg, near the New Jersey border. In return for nearly $77 million in tax breaks, the project promised to create exactly one permanent job 」

this is the AI infrastructure subsidy debate in a nutshell. the $190B capex plans from Microsoft and others depend on this kind of deal. the job creation math almost never works out the way they promise
My kingdom for a browser extension that prevents me from buying any item of clothing that I will need to iron every time I wear it.
@evacide Just type in “the 70’S”.
You’ll find your clothes there.
I was wondering why I was seeing so many "Co-authored-by: Copilot" commits recently. It turns out VS Code added a "feature" that inserts that into your commits automatically, even if you're not using Copilot.
It looks like people complained about this, which went nowhere until this hit the front page of HN. After this was the top HN story Saturday, an MS engineer submitted a PR to switch this feature to default off an hour ago (midnight Redmond time).
What will they think of next?
Well this is concerning.
I just suspended 14 Russian LLM generated bot accounts that were created around April 17 on my Mastodon instance, twit.social. Somehow they circumvented manual registration approval. I've turned on Captchas (much as I hate them) for new member requests in the hopes that will stop the bots. They must have discovered a registration bypass bug.
Thanks to IFTAS SW-ISAC for noting and reporting the bots.
@leo I enabled server-status to investigate some other issue, but noticed there were a bunch of requests against my Mastodon instance.
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Three days into service interruptions, with a major patch to install, and no word from Canonical. It's a shocking abdication of responsibility of care for their users.
If anyone who knows wants to share with me confidentially what's going on, DMs are open.
Who submiitted the un-needed patch that created the problem?
Is Canonical intentionally delaying fix because the flaw is under active exploit?
