@zkarj walks us through his long history as a programmer, specifically in iOS and macOS development, and then explains how so-called "vibe coding" has gotten him over the hump to develop two fantastic apps in the App Store. It's the opposite story from Adam Engst's, but they arrive at the same place.
- one of the top arch linux distro maintainers
- successfully got linux to add support for:
- module validation against checksum files
- and not cryptographic signatures,
- which are quite literally a checksum that is then encrypted with a private key,
- and for all intents and purposes completely indistinguishable in every way
- except anyone can modify the checksum
@hipsterelectron IIRC, he's also a Debian and Alpine package maintainer :P
@20002ist Leopards gonna eat faces.
@mattblaze So many faces, so few leopards.

I wonder sometimes what it would be like to meet someone from 200 years ago. 300. 400. We wouldn't even recognise each other as the same species.
@TheBreadmonkey I don’t think they’d be very chatty.

@hipsterelectron .o(who named it "Arch" anyway, and what does it span? who would choose such an idiom for a distro name? omg omg i should stop using my brain for the weekend.)
@promovicz it's obviously roman and obviously fascist. i got got when someone who worked in a crybersecurity lab (????) i interned in over freshman summer said "oh yeah arch has package updates out sooner than everyone else". i didn't really give a shit but i thought he seemed cool so whatever. now i just think that's a really fucked up thing to say
@Alex1488 @mahmoud@opentoot.org yeah, there's a lot of them around :(

Since Spotify now supports video, 2-3 months ago I decided to try uploading my Friday Checkout episodes to it to see if it offers any real diversification. I intentionally didn't promote it much on other platforms in order to see if Spotify's algo would pick up the channel & find an audience for it directly. I think the answer pretty much seem to be a no. The audience has grown a tiny bit, but is still miniscule, with no breakout success in sight.
Maybe the videos just aren't a good fit for the platform, but I am a little disappointed overall
@Techaltar I watch your videos in Nebula. What I love the most is zero ads. So ... you may promote in Spotify so people can also watch it free of ads (for paying subscribers though)
How much taller/shorter are you than your parents?
47cm & 20cm (18inches & 8inches) over mum and dad here.

I don’t like this kind of headline, but in this case, it’s serving to trick a certain kind of parent into reading what they really need to internalize: diagnosed autism rates are rising because we actually diagnose it now, not because of an actual change in the real rate
@0xabad1dea reminds me of the “we didn’t have X back then” … “oh yeah uncle Y was weird he did {insert spectrum, lgbt, left handed, etc behaviours here}”

Trump wastes time and money changing names that can be quickly changed back. Most people everywhere still use the traditional names. Idiots trying to change them from the original names just expose their
stupidity to everyone.
How many people actually call the Sears Tower in Chicago by the "new" name "Willis"?
@lauren
It's Istanbul,
Not Constantinopolis
