27th Aug 2026. Does 'humanity' as a concept figure often in your works? How so?
"Humanity" is a very dangerous concept because denying the humanity of a target group is a necessary precondition for genocide.
(Currently working on a space opera in which *our* kind of humanity is long-extinct, but there are many distinctly different hominin descendant species running about. Will be using it later to take some pot-shots at "scientific" racism.)
@davidgerard I'm seeing worrying signs in the internet chatter this month that they're trying to decide whether to pivot [back] to quantum computing or go straight for commercial fusion reactors. I suspect the latter is currently winning because "we can build cheap small fusion reactors to power the AI data centres" is an obvious follow-on spiel, while nobody quite understands the gimme with quantum.
