RIP La Momia
Nice, Firefox now has a QR code generator to share web links. (Right-click in URL bar.) You have to be OK with a big fat Firefox logo in the middle.
#Firefox
@stshank LibreOffice Writer can generate one even without a logo.
Insert -> OLE Object -> QR and Barcode
@jaseanton If you want to improve environments, about the WORST thing you can do is provide them with machines that will do all the creative work for them and let them put their own names on it. The path to Hell.
@lauren We’re in agreement! It really isn’t the path people should take, but there has to be a better environment for them to see their options more clearly. The current environment just means more people will cynically follow the money and the hype.
Just moments ago, the United States Government has designated Autistici/Inventari as a terrorist organisation. According to the US, I'm now a terrorist since I use A/I infrastructure.
All I have to say to the US government is: Fuck you.
U.S. Department of The Treasury statement: https://archive.is/NrjfQ
The US is targeting the anarchist collective that hosts the popular Noblogs wordpress platform as terrorists. This is truly batshit (as are their various obvious lies about Rose City Antifa etc).
This is a HUGE attack on basic free speech.
I never liked the smell of DuckDB tbh
@MsMissy I've seen no evidence that the USPS is willing to screw with ballots on their own initiative. Trump opposed vote by mail in 2020, and there were no reports of problems with ballot delivery.
There's every reason to believe they'll follow court rulings, however.
My university ditched the embedded video system they were using for online courses for "Zoom clips" and it's fucking stuffed to the gills with AI features that will make it so students don't actually learn anything - there's a fucking homework cheat "helper" built right in that summarizes lectures and gives you homework answers.
I desperately need recommendations for another way to do this.
Anybody know anything about this company? https://spotlightr.com/features/
Other video options?
@sundogplanets I'm afraid you're fighting a losing battle. Technically, there's no way to prevent a video stream from being intercepted – even if it means recording it with a camera.
We'll need different teaching approaches that take the presence of AI into account. Unfortunately.

What's your favorite:

Genders?
@catsalad no love for PCIe bus/device/function addresses?
I really like 00:51:00.0

Even Wildvine DRM on Android (or others blocking screen grabs) can be circumvented by pointing a "camera" at the screen.
@raymaccarthy @rstein Yeah, I know there are a zillion ways around it. I just don't want downloads to be easily built in. Some students will circumvent anything I come up with. But most students won't if it's not easy.
I want to say this explicitly: When I'm building my feature-phone... I never imagine in my wildest dreams that everyone would use it, or another loosely-similar feature-phone.
My stance is that smartphones have their place, but we shouldn't be obligated to have one. My goal is to provide choices, not to take over the world!
1/tangentially 2!
Incidentally I have the impression that if there's demand for me to reach a mass-market, I'll probably have to sell out to someone capable of transforming this from a project into an operation. Hopefully someone relatively ethical, & post-capitalist.
But that's FAR too far ahead to plan at the moment. For now I refuse to think a beyond a limited-run via CrowdSupply.

Now more than ever autonomous comms infrastructures are needed. The US government has officially sanctioned Autistici Inventati in Italy, one of the pillars of resistance tech and the home of NoBlogs where many comrades host their websites.
Trump's war on "the left" is not going to end anytime soon, so keep supporting your radical tech collectives or start building your own autonomous comms.

@blogdiva @gunchleoc A collection is just a collection of profiles you can curate and share with others. There is no feed like there is with a list. Lists are also private.
@Gargron @gunchleoc right, so they still appear on my timeline and don’t get moved out into the list’s dedicated stream.
so TL;DR:
1. a collection is just that, like an album of accounts you curate
2. a list is an actual technical feature for changing how your timeline works. you create a list to separate those accounts into their own timeline stream. you have to unlist them if you want to see them in your default timeline stream.
feel free to use this to update the docs
A famous southern 80-year-old country-singing Christian woman died today, and none of the rather lefty people I know are insulting her, making fun of her death or faith, or calling her a nazi. They are posting positive messages about her. People on "the left" don't hate religious people. They hate bigotted assholes.
