Not only did he attempt to sell the World Cup, he attempted to sell it on the cheap to the Trump mafia.
We built a really cool resource for the fediverse to help onboard new people, and for existing people to find accounts to follow based on similar interests with our opt-in People Directory!
https://fediverse.info/people?topics=photography
We also invited a few trusted people to help administer this service, and oversee it, to prevent any bias of our own projects.
The fediverse thrives with trusted services like these, spread the word 🌱
@ColinTheMathmo probably? libgen servers come and go, find another
@davidgerard I've not been away of "libgen servers" so this is new to me.
Thanks for letting me know ... I'll go hunting.
Ever more footballers are pressuring FIFA chief Gianni Infantino to resign after he plotted to sell off the World Cup.
Removing him should be the first step in a root-and-branch reform to put the game back in the hands of players and ordinary fans. https://jacobin.com/2026/08/football-fifa-infantino-reelection-resignation
My new podcast has launched! In the first episode with @nileane, we go through the last two months of Apple news that I’ve missed. Starting with a real bang.
Announcement post, and links to subscribe everywhere, here:

@catsalad Also looks like the gym dudes who don't workout their legs. 🤣

“However, after a mere 22 years it seems that the thesis of Social Media has all but disappeared. It’s no longer “Social” but rather “Algorithmic” Media. As conceived, the content seen by social media users was generated by other users–it was peer-to-peer...
Today what one sees on social media rarely includes content from friends, family, classmates, or even the people you chose to follow. This transition been hard to notice mainly because the changed come gradually and subtly… with TikTok.”
The thing that will always, always get me is that there's relatively few actual sociopaths in the world, and yet (by their own acts, by designing scaled sociopathic systems, by instilling the notion that sociopathic conduct is normative, and by compelling everyone else to adopt a posture that will anticipate and counter sociopathy) they manage to ruin things for everyone.
This observation prompted by a dream I had last night in which I ran into Peter Thiel at the supermarket on Waiheke. I gave him the maximum stinkeye, of course, to zero discernible effect.
Spurred by a comment one of you-all made here the other day, I’d like to follow more people on here.
Do me a favor and recommend folks who you think I’d appreciate hearing more from on the regular and do not already follow? You know what I like: heavy music, cats, tasteful SF, ‘70s DIY/DIT praxis descended from the Whole Earth current, doom philosophy, tropical Brutalism, ultrarunning & UL hiking, nondogmatic anarchism, whatever the diametric opposite of FOSS hectoring/infighting is, good design...the usual.
ETA: I should also clarify I have no interest in people with existing large followings, thanks!
This is not normal! 🥵
Climate warming is driving more frequent and intense heat extremes as many people worldwide are exposed to chronic heat.
#ExtremeWeather

@greenpeace Idea: stop talking about climate *warming* and start talking about climate *change* or climate *crisis* instead. It leaves less room to the sceptics when we have temperatures under 30C.
@julieofthespirits @kevingranade@mastodon.gamedev.place @MaddieM4 the cause is liberal comfort as a terminal value. elevating a lack of uncomfortable thoughts above all, and certainly above anything even slightly resembling a real problem.
so they say obviously inane shit like mayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyybe clanker is only three steps removed from being a RACIST
and expect this idea to be taken the slightest bit earnestly instead of being called a fucking idiot
@davidgerard @julieofthespirits @MaddieM4 Many, many years ago, a former professor of mine described this as a "ideology of psychological convenience." I've never forgotten the phrase and, once you realize that this describes both liberals as political singletons and liberalism as an ideological formation, you cannot see it in any other way.
It's like an autostereogram.
Oh now I remember this scene and it kind of hits home xD
"What sort of a writer am I, when I hate writing?.. When writing for me is a torture, a painful, shameful occupation, akin to poking a hemorrhoid!"
@nobody oh yes omg this makes me wanna watch it again
@RLIBlog Ah yes, we've identified the bug and are working on a fix that will be deployed within the hour!
Sorry for the inconvenience!
@dansup Don't worry, keep up the great work!
Nerves is a high-level framework for smart devices. It makes IoT easy for humans. Apparently agents like it too?

Nerves IoT framework, apparently popular with agents
I built a fediverse onboarding tool based around the FediDB database.
While it does work, it could be improved and highlight some less popular but really cool projects.
I don't think Kerkez or Frimpong are a good match for LFC. If Tsimikas weren't lacking contact with real football, I'd prefer Tsimikas to Kerkez. The Frimpong situation is less worrying if it's true that Bradley's return is near.
Ngumoha is too young, and his position is the least of the problems we have. It was a bad idea to play him on PL kick-off day away at St James Park. It was never going to work.
Gravs and Dom work. I have no idea what to do about Wirtz.
I think the noises coming from the rumour mill are indicative of what we think about the wings.
@djfiander @coral @adr Wait, there are fake timtams too?! How deep does this rabbithole go? I do appreciate we have the real thing, even if we don't have the full range.
@misty @coral @adr OK, so it looks like Nutella is made in Canada, but it's made in a Ferrero-owned and operated plant not too far away from John and me.
